Pago de los Balagueses Syrah Vegalfaro 2019
Pago de los Balagueses Syrah Bodegas Vegalfaro
Deep red with purple, very aromatic, ripe red and black fruit, balsamic, floral and spices. Beautiful use of wood.
The 30-year-old vines are grown in a 7-hectare vineyard at an altitude of 780 metres. Yields are less than 2 kilos per stick. The grapes are destemmed and crushed, after which a cold maceration of the skins takes place and then the vinification, of which the malolactic is done in French oak barrels. After 10 months of wood aging (70% new casks and 30% used), the wine matures for another 6 months in the bottle before it is sold.
In 1999, Andrés Valiente, together with his son Rodolfo, decided to build their own bodega and bottle the wines themselves.
The bodega has 60 hectares of vineyards and can be found in the Utiel-Requena wine region, which is located west of Valencia. White and red wines are made with the DO Utiel-Requena, a sparkling wine entitled to the DO Cava and three wines from the “Los Balagueses” vineyard. This vineyard has had Pago status since 2011 and is therefore one of the top vineyards in Spain. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 600 to 900 meters and are farmed organically. Viñedos & Bodegas Vegalfaro strives for high quality wines with their own style. Rodolfo Valiente has been the winemaker since its founding. He was named the best winemaker in the Valencia region in 2017.
Bobal is the most important grape in Utiel-Requena and accounts for 80% of red wine production. Other grape varieties have also been planted in the vineyards of Vegalfaro: chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, macabeo, merlot, syrah, tempranillo and garnacha tintorera.
