Matsu El Picaro Toro 2023
Matsu El Picaro Toro
Bright ruby red color, aromas of blueberries, blackberries on the nose with slightly mineral notes. The taste is fresh, complex with delicious fruity notes of black fruit with light notes of wood and spice, followed by a smooth, rich, long aftertaste.
El Picaro is delicious with red meat dishes, veal, an accompaniment to the BBQ, poultry and light stews.
Matsu El Picaro is made from Tinto de Toro, the local variety of Tempranillo in the Toro wine region, from vines over 50 years old. The harvest is entirely by hand in the first 15 days of October when the grapes are fully ripe. The grapes are gently pressed in a pneumatic press, after which natural fermentation takes place in concrete tanks at a temperature below 24°C. One fifth of the wine undergoes a 3-month aging in French oak, after which the wine is bottled without filtration to preserve its natural properties.
Matsu is Vintae's unique sustainable organic wine project in the Spanish wine region Toro. The Toro wine region is located northwest of Madrid on the Duero River and has been DO recognized since 1987. Raúl Acha, the winemaker of Vintae, went looking for old vineyards for organic viticulture, in his search he even found a vineyard with vines that are almost 100 years old. This search and the process of making the wines is reflected in the name of this wine project. Matsu means; "patient balance" in Japanese. Matsu is inspired by the Japanese tradition of nurturing nature in purity and simplicity. It is a tribute to the Spanish wine tradition. All wines are made from grapes that grow in a completely natural environment, according to the most advanced biodynamic techniques. The Matsu trilogy of wines depicts three generations of winemakers.
