Marques de Murrieta Gran Reserva 2016
Marques de Murrieta Gran Reserva
The grape varieties are vinified separately. The grapes are pre-destemmed and ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The fermentation takes about 8 to 12 days. During this period, pumping is carried out regularly to ensure contact between the juice and the peel. Then the solid parts of the grapes are gently crushed in a vertical press, extracting color and ripe tannins from the grape skins. The wine matures for 27 months in 225 liter American oak barrels.
The grapes come from the Ygay Estate, consisting of 300 hectares of vineyards located around the winery in the southernmost point of Rioja Alta. The altitude ranges from 320 to 485 meters above sea level.
The origin of the Marques de Murrieta winery is also the origin of Rioja. Don Luciano Murrieta applied techniques he had learned in Bordeaux and made the first Rioja wine in 1852. Don Luciano's vision was clear from the start: to create a fine Rioja wine with great aging potential and to export it outside Spain. Marqués de Murrieta has been managed daily by the Cebrián-Sagarriga family since 1983, characterized by their professionalism. The wines are created in Ygay, an estate of 300 hectares of vineyards located in the southern part of Rioja Alta. The team benefits from an ideal climate and combines this with meticulous care of the vineyards to ultimately produce wines with a unique personality. Marqués de Murrieta is constantly evolving thanks to their expertise and vision. The winery has been completely modernized, but remains true to its roots and identity and is ready to create the best possible wines in the future.
