Brüder Dr. Becker Riesling Dienheim 2021
Brüder Dr. Becker Riesling Dienheim
Classic variety from a mineral-rich soil, recognizable pure tree fruit, a hint of honey, which betrays the almost overripe character of the grapes, and fresh, not too tight acidity, reminiscent of Granny Smith, elegant dry style, long aftertaste, delicious! Impeccably pure wine of a high standard. Terroir wine through and through, a fusion of soil, grape and craftsmanship. It is not without reason that Riesling is called the queen of the white grape varieties.
Combines excellently with mild fish, but also has sufficient concentration with slightly spicy dishes.
The grapes for this “VDP municipal wine” are planted on a loess soil with a lime subsoil on terraces along the Rhine. The grapes are picked when they are fully ripe, close to Spätlese level. The fermentation takes place spontaneously and the juice remains on the lees for another five Mondays. During this maturation, which takes place in large wooden barrels, the lees are regularly stirred into the wine (bâtonnage). Bottling then takes place in May.
Weingut Brüder Dr. Becker
The wine estate has 11 hectares of vineyards around the village of Ludwigshöhe, which can be found between the cities of Mainz and Worms in the eastern part of Rheinhessen. The grapes ripen on the southeastern hills along the Rhine on a loess and lime soil and in the valley on gravel and sand. The company's preference is to plant regional varieties: Riesling, Silvaner and Scherebe (the specialty of Rheinhessen) for white and Spätburgunder for red and rosé.
Although the founder of the company is Franz Becker, it was his sons Dr. Johann Becker (lawyer and minister) and Dr Jakob Becker (physician) who - when they returned to Ludwigshöhe after the Second World War and devoted themselves to the wine business together - gave it the name “Brüder Dr. Becker” gave.
The current owners, Lotte Pfeffer-Müller and Hans Müller, are the third generation. Lotte's grandmother was married to Johann Becker. Lotte Pfeffer and her husband took over the company in the mid-1980s. Lotte's parents have been committed to sustainable agriculture since the late 1970s and have adopted this method.
