Haus Klosterberg Riesling Trocken Markus Molitor 2023
Haus Klosterberg Riesling Trocken Markus Molitor
Delicious with smoked fish, sushi and Asian dishes. The wine can still be stored until 2030.
At just 20 years old, Markus Molitor took over his father's winery in 1984 with the aim of continuing the eight-generation tradition. The winery is located in the center of Wehlener Klosterberg. They pay a lot of attention to the natural care of the vineyards. Markus Molitor's vineyards are planted for 94% with Riesling and the remainder consists of Weissburgunder (Pinot-Blanc) and Spätburgunder (Pinot-Noir).
The grapes are harvested in October. 100% healthy grapes are gently crushed and undergo maceration for several hours on the grape skins. The must then undergoes spontaneous fermentation in large wooden barrels. The wine is aged for a long time in stainless steel tanks, resulting in a beautiful fruity wine that is well balanced.
Markus Molitor has chosen the grapes for this wine from different vineyards. The soil contains a lot of slate, which produces crispy, mineral wines.
The grapes are harvested manually, but mechanical harvesting is not possible due to the steep slopes. An experienced team picks the grapes late in the year, even though this poses a higher risk. The benefits of this are less aggressive, riper acids. The grape is riper and contributes to the structure of the wine.
